Your photos made it out. Their dates didn't.

PhotoEscape repairs your Google Takeout or Snapchat export and adds it to Apple Photos with dates, places and albums intact.

Coming soon. Free to try, $19 to unlock. macOS 14 or later.

PhotoEscape after scanning a Google Takeout export: items found, photos missing dates and places, and what it will fix.

Exports keep the photos and lose the story.

Google Takeout puts each photo's date and place in a separate file next to it. Snapchat saves captions and stickers as a separate layer. Import either one into Apple Photos and years of memories land on the day you downloaded them.

Straight into Apple Photos.

When the repair is done, one click adds everything to your Photos library: in the right year, on the map, and back in its albums.

Your albums, rebuilt

Google albums come back as real albums, inside a PhotoEscape folder so they don't mix with yours.

Live Photos that play

Each still and its short video are paired back into one Live Photo.

Only ever adds

Nothing already in your library is changed or deleted, and running it twice won't add duplicates.

PhotoEscape after a repair, asking to add 10 items to the Photos library in a new folder of albums.

Three steps, and your export stays as it was.

Drop in your export

The zip files you downloaded, all parts at once, or the unzipped folder. No unzipping needed.

See what it found

A free scan shows how many photos are missing dates, places and captions, and how many it can restore.

Add them to Apple Photos

One click adds them to your library with albums rebuilt. Or keep the repaired copies in a folder.

It only ever adds.

When you're about to cancel a service or wipe a phone, you need a tool that can't make things worse.

  • Your export is never changedPhotoEscape reads it and writes repaired copies somewhere else.
  • Everything stays on your MacNothing is uploaded, and it never asks for your Google or Snapchat password.

Questions

Does it work with Apple Photos?

Yes. After a repair, Add to Photos puts everything into a new folder of albums in your library, with Live Photos paired back up. You can also import the repaired folder yourself with File, then Import.

Will it delete or change anything?

No. Your export is only read. Repaired copies go into a new folder, and adding to Apple Photos only adds; nothing already in your library is touched.

Do I need to give it my Google or Snapchat login?

No. You download your export yourself, and PhotoEscape works on the files on your Mac.

What can't it fix?

Anything the export never contained: Google's Locked Folder, photos other people shared that you didn't save, Snapchat's My Eyes Only. Files a service recompressed stay at the quality the service kept. When a photo has no location and no nearby photo to go by, its time zone is a best guess, and it's labeled as one.

Is there a Windows version?

Not yet. PhotoEscape is for Macs running macOS 14 Sonoma or later.
